Where to shop
Rue St. Catherine is the busiest shopping street, leading from the Place de la Comedie to the Place de la Victoire, it is over a kilometre in length and completely pedestrianized.
Another popular place is along the Cours de l’Intendance, where you will find luxury labels with many designer boutiques.
Tati on the corner of Rue St. James and Cours Victor Hugo cater for those on a tighter budget.
Bordeaux’s commercial centres off a good choice of shops, Meriadeck on the Rue Claude Bonnier. Galeries Lafayette, & Le Marche des Grands Hommes. A number of speciality wine shops can also be found in the area around the Tourist Information Office.
The St. Michel district of Bordeaux is a lively spot for bargains and inexpensive shopping.

Railway Charente Limousine – Velorail
Open from April-October
Cash only I think!!
The Vélorail is an outdoor family activity that takes you along the old railway line from Commequiers to Coëx for seven kilometres, aboard a handcar.
AN UNUSUAL WALK 10 MINUTES FROM SAINT GILLES CROIX DE VIE
With family or friends, the Vélorail offers you an unusual and friendly ride in the countryside, aboard a handcar rolling on an old railway line.
Enjoy the 2-hour (14km) round trip through the countryside of the Pays de St Gilles Croix de Vie.
The Vélorail, a sort of railway Rosalie, fulfils all the functions of a bicycle by moving exclusively on the rails and using a truly ecological traction system: the calf oil of two passengers!
Each rail bike can transport 2 to 4 people (+ a 5th person if they are under 12 years old)
Like a pedal boat on rails, better than a bicycle, more than a tandem, the Vélorail (handcar) offers a rural and refreshing group ride that will delight young and old alike.
MANUAL
- The Vélorail consists of two pedalling stations (accessible from 1m40) and two or three passenger seats at the rear (if children under 12 years old).
- The presence of at least one adult per handcar is mandatory.
Reservation required online or by telephone.
DISTANCE AND TRAVEL TIME
- 14km round trip (7 km there / 7 km return). Midway flip plate.
- 2 hours of walking.
- Several departures per day, at fixed times.
- Mostly shaded route.
