Puyravaud is situated at the heart of the Charente region of

Close by is the historic town of La Rochefoucalud with its 11thCentury Chateau, owned by the same family for the last 500 years. The Chateau is full of interesting historic artifacts and is a must see for any visitor.
Angouleme (25 mins)
Within 25 kilometres is the walled city of
Oradour-Sur-Glane (45 mins drive)
On 10th June 1944 the idylic French village of Oradour-sur-Glane was completely destroyed and 642 innocent men, women and children were massacred by soldiers in Hitler's elite Waffen-SS army. The ruins of the martyred village have been reserved as a memorial to those victims that died.
Cognac (1 hours drive)
Cognac is a medieval town with cobbled streets and elegant Renaissance architecture. The spirit of Cognac has been created here since the 17th century, with world famous houses such as Camus, Hennessy, Martell, Otard, Remy-Martin, Courvoisier being located here. Join a guided tour where you can take a barge or a small train to discover the history of Cognac and explore the vineyards, distilleries and museums.
Brantome (The Venice of the Perigord) (1 hour's drive )

Surrounded by the river Dronne the little town of Brantôme is referred to as "the Venice of the Périgord". The town's pride is its Benedictine abbey dating back to 786. Brantôme offers a lovely day out with something for everyone. You can explore the River Dronne in a hired canoe, or in a pedal-powered boat. There are numerous, cafés, bars and restaurants to suit all budgets, art galleries, arts and crafts shops, antique shops and a wonderful farmers' market every Tuesday and Friday in July and August.
Perigeux (Capital of the Dordogne) (1 hours 10 mins drive)
Perigeux is an ancient town that dates back to the neolithic times, and was an important Roman centre. Today it continues to be an important centre for the region, and has one of the the biggest market, local crafts, urban chic shopping with a wealth of local farm produce, and many restaurants.
St Emilion (and Bordeaux wine region) (1 hour 45 mins)
Another excellent day trip takes you to down to wine region of Bordeaux. A full day gets you down to the Grand regions of Marguaux and St Emilion (which is an exceptionally pretty town). For a shorter day that is equally enjoyable try the Northern Bordeaux regions of Cote De Bourg and Cote De Blaye. There are tens of smaller wine producers in these regions that welcome visitors and are keen to show off their produce. Blaye itself has a wonderful citadel and is a busy town that's well worth a visit.
