The Carp Lakes At Puravaud - 1 & 2

The two lakes at Puyravaud date back to at least 1768. They are two of only four lakes in the Charente that are shown on the Cassini map that records the area from 1766-1768. Both lakes are off-line lakes fed from the adjoining stream. The estate is completely private and, as such, no permits are needed and night fishing is allowed.

Puyravaud Lake 1Puyravaud 1 - The larger lake is around 6.5 acres and has been extensively refurbished over the last two years. Having drained the lake in 2007, we set about de-silting, refurbishing damn walls and strengthening banks that had eroded over many years. This became a massive DIY project when I decided to buy my own digger and dumper to complete the work. Over a 100 man days later we have a fantastic lake that has Puyravaud Kingfisherbeen stocked from scratch. We also reclaimed about an acre of the lake that had silted up over many years of neglect.

A new Sluice gate has been installed as well as a grill to control fish entering from the stream. There a six purpose built swims to ensure everyone has plenty of room and privacy on the lake.

Puyravaud Bottom Lake 2

Puyravaud 2 – The smaller of the two at around 3.5 acres and surrounded by trees. This is a very secluded spot and the lake is teaming with smaller wild carp that offer great sport using float or fishing on the bottom. Our plan is to renovate this lake during 2011/12 and use it to bring on the next generation of Puyravaud carp.
